Surveying the structure of the Jewish world in 1975, Israeli philosopher Nathan Rotenstreich observed that two paradigms of Jewish politics now existed side-by-side: the paradigm of “auto-emancipation” in Israel, and the paradigm of “emancipation” in the United States.
