The abduction of the president of Venezuela to be brought for trial in the United States has put Iran into the target bank as a regime that could be next for a similar operation. The “Islamic Republic” seems to be threatened with disintegration amid speculative news reports about an “escape route” to Russia that has been prepared for Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei; U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to harm the Iranian leadership if protesters are killed, anxiety over another round of attacks by Israel and/or America as well as a New York Times report about Tehran being in “survival mode.”
