Starting in 1984 with the seminal rockumentary “This is Spinal Tap,” Reiner hit such a rich vein of form that it seemed he could do no wrong. Until, that is, his fortunes changed in the late ’90s and he could no longer buy a hit (save for his 2007 comedy with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, “The Bucket List”).
