Benjamin Netanyahu’s trial was supposed to be Israeli democracy’s finest hour, proof that even the prime minister isn’t above the law. Five and a half years after it began, those fine words are nothing but a vague memory of a long-ago time. Tuesday’s hearing once again proved how empty they are of content.
